Summer Reading Challenge
Studies show that children who do not read or have
access to books over the summer lose up to two reading levels! Those losses accumulate during the primary
and elementary school years so that by the time a child enters middle school,
he/she may be 2 ½ years behind! All
children may fall victim to the “summer slide” if not provided with reading
opportunities. We are offering a summer
reading challenge to our incoming first and second grade LPS students to help keep those reading levels that
you worked so hard for up and ready for the next grade.
Students can choose which level they want to
complete.
- Level 1: Read 25 books and you will receive a reading prize pack!
- Level 2: Read 50 books and you will receive a reading prize pack AND a pizza party!
- Level 3: Read 75 books and you will receive a reading prize pack AND a pizza party AND an invitation to a party in the Uptown Party Game Truck!
Click on the link below to download the information and recording sheets.
We hope everyone has a great summer!!

Email Phishing Attack - May 3, 2017
Lorena ISD Community,
In case you are not aware, there is a Google Docs phishing attack going around by email this afternoon. It starts by stating that a google user has invited you to view the following document and there is a link.
Once the user clicks on the link, it asks for permission to view, read, modify emails and manage contacts. Do not allow permission.
If you have already clicked on the link, then my best suggestion is to change your password in Google immediately. Then, please do the following:
· Open an internet browser and type in the url accounts.google.com
· Click on Connected Apps and Sites
· Click on Manage Apps
· Look for Google Doc App entries that have today's date.
· Revoke access to that app if it has today’s date or Just Now
Here are some articles that explain what is happening with this phishing attack right now.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Grimm
Director of Technology & Information Services
Lorena ISD

Be the Match Donor Drive
Melinda Colyer is a first grade teacher at Lorena Primary in need of a bone marrow transplant. She has been married to her husband Bubba for 32 years and has two children, Zach and Jordan. Melinda was recently diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) with myelofibrosis and will need a bone marrow transplant. She currently does not have a match in her immediate family which means her doctors will be looking on the Be The Match Registry.
If you are not currently on the registry joining is very simple. It includes a cheek swab and a consent form, that’s it! If you are a match for patients like Melinda you will be asked to donate to them. You must be between 18-44, in general good health, and willing to donate to any patient in need. #BethematchforMelinda!
There will be a donor drive Monday April 3rd at Midway High School!
Midway High School Gymnasium 12-7pm come out and learn how YOU could be the CURE!
To host a drive or for more information please contact Kelly Baker: Kelly.Baker@BSWHealth.org
